PENCIL FIRST

It all starts with pencil work.
The lettering for SHIRK started here.
Lower mid. is the concept sketch for the poster to be made for her.
My header lettering and also uses for other stuff is on the right.

But as much as I try nothing ever seems to look as good as it does in pencil.
I find that hand lettering is amazing and the translation to digital rendering is something I have to put a lot more practice into.

More later but for now .. I AM KENYA BOUND !

Anyways was lookin for videos of craig mack and I came across this ... Love finding jems like these ..
Anyways .. this made want to post a work-less entry.

I love busta rhymes and I think I am going to do a quick illustration off one of those vid caps ..
also going to re-install corel painter and get back to some digital water colors.

I also have an idea for a SHIRK poster ....

Every once in a while you are hit with a moment of absolute content.
I found this moment sitting in a back alley lined with fabric stores, on shaded tiles, being hit with a breeze that was surprisingly cooler than the 38 degrees it was supposed to be today. 
I was looking up at the side of worn down building and it took me a while to notice that there were pigeons flying in an out a balcony with the order and system of a space station ..
I forget what I was listening to but I remember there being no noise, I think you know what I mean when you have background music that tunes everything out without being recognizable.
the whole 30 minutes had the effect of the tree dots at the end of a sentence ...

SHIRK

I have started an editorial project on an awe inducing person.
Brittney Townson of SHIRK MAGAZINE and MODELE.
She had me at hello and ever since I have been a huge fan of hers.
There is a lot to say about her and I had some really good choice of words earlier. Well I guess just wait and read about it when the spreads are up.

Here are some quick warm ups .. god I love type.
I wanted Shirk to be written in something that had a little style / jazz and a lot of fun.
I also wanted to retain that fashion magazine elegance.

I think I got it.   

Next I shall try implementing a few effects like a shine or something on to it ..

BUT .. definitely check out her BLOG. You will not be disappointed!

STYLO

It has been a while since I created a font.
I always have some form of lettering that I will add but I wanted something more .. I don't know ..
anyways .. I love tall fonts, I find that they are not so many out there or maybe I haven't searched enough.
But I illustrated this set. Working on the illustrator / cleaner version of it..
Inspiration for this was me trying to do a fashion magazine editorial thing and i wanted an original font to use.
I present STYLO.

I am thinking this somewhere between Heidi Klum and and a young Cate Blanchett
